Serendib Sorcerers

The Serendib Sorcerers is a project that explores new musical possibilities of folk music in Sri Lanka together with improvisational, contemporary and Western approaches to music. Their debut album ‘Jana Gee Reworked’ was released in 2016 and received much acclaim locally. In September 2019, the Sorcerers released their second album, ‘Pathulen Muthu gena’ comprising of a collection of unfamiliar pieces of Sri Lanakan folk songs from different local regions.

After several years on hiatus, the group returned to the stage this year with actress and vocalist Nipuni Sharada alongside master traditional musician Susantha Rupathilaka—who lent his vocals to their second album—in a performance that aims to showcase material from both of their earlier releases.

The current line up of Serendib Sorcerers consists of Nipuni Sharada (voice), Susantha Rupathillaka (voice and gata bera), Sarani Perera (guitar), Naveen Wichremathunga (alto sax), Pasindu Devinda (tenor sax), Nuwan Gunawardhana (trombone), Uvindu Perera (bass) and Sumudi Suraweera (drums).
